The Commons is a community space that is facilitated entirely by volunteers. We are always looking for more people to be involved in this venture!
Events and Groups
One way you can become involved is to attend one of our many events or group meetings (please see the calendar for coming events). With so much going on, there should be an activity to tickle your fancy, whether it is music, cheesemaking, yoga, writer’s groups, or craft.
Stop by when we’re open!
The Commons is currently open Monday 12-3pm, Tuesday 4-7pm, Wednesday 3-6pm and Thursday 3-6pm (check the calendar to make sure) and every second Saturday 10am-2pm. You can come by for a tea, coffee, buy some ethical products at the Common Goods store, listen to some tunes on the record player, browse the people’s library or exchange a book. Feel free to come and study here, bring your kids, favourite book, etc. There is no requirement to buy from the cafe to hang out in the space!
Become a ‘Friend of the Commons’
If you’d like to help support our community work financially, you can become a Friend of the Commons. Please get in touch if you’d like to help out, and we can give you more information (bank details, etc.). Help us sustain the space!
There are many different ways to volunteer your time at the Commons: helping out in the cafe, faciliating events, cleaning, offering your print or web design skills, managing The Commons’ communications, etc. If you have a particular skill or interest there is most likely something you can help us with!
Head to our Volunteering page for more information or to submit an application to be a volunteer.
Direction of the Commons
We encourage all members of the Commons to contribute to the wider direction and running of the space. We have a management committee that meets at 10am on the second Saturday of every month and you are invited to come along, share any dreams or ideas you have and help make decisions about the strategy and running of the Commons.
